What it is

Lifeshell is an anti-seismic furniture construction concept which can be used for making wardrobes, tables, desktops, beds. It is made by using Cross Laminated Timber based panels, highly resistant and flexible, but relatively lightweight and inexpensive.

Lifeshell benefits from the natural wood elasticity and from the same metal hardware used in wooden houses for dissipating great impact energies may occur during an earthquake. It has been thought for resisting partial building collapses, and to provide a safe shell where inhabitants can find refuge. This system allows increasing the survival chances especially in old not-anti-seismic buildings, and potentially avoid injuries and death.

Cos'è

Il mobile antisismico lifeshell può essere un armadio, un tavolo, una scrivania o un letto. E' costruito con pannelli di legno a strati incrociati X-LAM (Cross Laminated Timber) ad altissima resistenza.

Life Shell utilizza la naturale elasticità e capacità di dissipare energia del legno e un sistema di connessioni già collaudato per edifici antisismici per assorbire le imponenti energie in gioco durante un sisma, ed in particolare quelle derivanti dall'impatto di oggetti o parti di strutture che durante il sisma dovessero collassare sul mobile. Tale sistema permette di aumentare notevolmente la possibilità di uscire indenni da un sisma, ed evitare di conseguenza infortuni o morte.
